Nowadays we are surrounded by the noise and intrusion of advertising campaigns wherever we go. It can be difficult to enjoy a few minutes of peace and calm.
Fortunately, the professionals at Alex Bratic Dental Care are here to offer you a small break with this ran collection of dental myths related to teeth. Enjoy!
Some of the myths related to curing a toothache can be quite amusing, if rarely based in reality.
- One common false “fact” is that chewing cloves will cure a toothache. The fact is that no home treatment can cure a toothache, they can only ease pain. While cloves do contain eugenol, a chemical that actually can cleanse and numb an area, they do nothing to treat toothaches.
- Another example of a useless, and even dangerous, myth is that placing an aspirin on a sore tooth is better than swallowing the aspirin. This is not true and can actually damage your oral health!
- The funniest myth is that kissing a donkey, or some other equine family member, might cure a toothache. Not only is this not true, but potentially dangerous. Kissing a donkey will upset the donkey and the farmer, but it will do nothing for a toothache. You don’t want an upset donkey anywhere near your teeth! Instead, see your Alex Bratic dentist, and get your toothache treated!
Chewing on cloves might offer temporary relief from the pain of a toothache, but will not do anything to treat it. Proper treatment can be received from your Alec Bratic dentist, and unlike chewing cloves, dental treatment does not leave your breath smelling like an herb-shop!
Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) can cause swelling in soft tissues, complicate dental issues, and even cause burns within the mouth. Aspirin should be swallowed – not placed on the outside of a source of pain. Imagine stuffing an aspirin in your ear to treat an earache!
