How healthy are your teeth and gums?
Examination and Advice
Visit our practice six monthly for a check up and professional clean. Problems are solved more easily and less expensively when detected early. As a fully qualified and experienced dentist, Alex is able to provide individualised advice to all members of your family.
Teeth Cleaning
Also known as a ‘scale and polish.’ This service involves removing the natural build up of plaque and tartar from your teeth. To “scale” the teeth an ultrasonic device is used to remove the bulk of the plaque and tartar. The scale is then followed by a polish. Once completed the teeth will feel clean & smooth.
Gum Disease
In this condition the gum and bone around a tooth are lost. In severe cases the tooth may become loose, sore to touch and ultimately may be lost. There have been a number of studies that have shown people with gum disease are more likely to suffer from heart disease and diabetes. Like most conditions when identified early, the prognosis is better.
Part of our routine examination is to screen every patient for this condition. We also provide practical advice for home care routines to reduce the risk of developing gum disease.
Mouthguards
Whether you are a serious sport professional or an amateur player, you need to be serious about protecting your teeth when playing contact sports. We can custom make a mouthguard that will fit you perfectly and comfortably in any colour you choose. Remember the cost of a mouth guard is minimal compared to the cost of fixing a badly damaged tooth.
Preventative Care for Children
Give your children the best possible start to a lifetime of healthy teeth. Good oral hygiene and dietary habits from an early age provide the right environment for healthy teeth to develop.
As part of our routine service we offer preventative dietary and oral hygiene advice. Using a diagnostic laser (the Diagnocam) we can identify decay at its very early stages. We can implement preventative strategies that may then avoid the need for fillings altogether.
Preventative Care for Adults
Through comprehensive examinations, your dentist can identify oral problems that could potentially have a detrimental effect on your health and well-being. We carefully screen for tooth decay, gum disease and oral growths and cancers. Our nutritional, lifestyle and oral hygiene advice is tailored to your specific problem.
Undoubtedly the oral condition that has the biggest effect on our general health is periodontal disease (gum disease). As we age, we become more at risk of medical conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis. These conditions are all linked to periodontal disease and this is where preventative care is important for adults and elderly people.
Our aim is to improve not only your dental health but your general health.
